The California DMV has announced that it will hold a public workshop on Oct. 19, 2018 in Sacramento, CA to get input from the public on how to go about regulating autonomous delivery trucks. The DMV’s current regulations exclude vehicles over 10,001 pounds and “motortrucks” from testing or deployment on public roads in California. As defined in Vehicle Code Section 410, a “motortruck” is “a motor vehicle designed, used, or maintained primarily for the transportation of property.”
The meeting agenda lists several questions the DMV is hoping to get answers to at the workshop. Suggested regulatory language is also sought.
